About VIVOS (CPAP Alternative)

Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder that causes you to temporarily stop breathing throughout the night. It can be caused by a blocked airway, which interrupts breathing while you sleep. The common types of sleep apnea are:

OSA (obstructive sleep apnea)

OSA is caused by a blocked airway, often caused when the soft tissue in the back of the throat collapses. This leads to loud snoring, gasping, and/or choking during sleep.

CSA (central sleep apnea)

CSA is caused by the brain failing to signal the muscles to breathe. This often occurs when the brain isn’t able to send signals to the muscles as it does for OSA.

MSA (mixed sleep apnea)

Mixed sleep apnea is a combination of obstructive and central sleep apnea. This means the airway is partially blocked, and the brain fails to signal to breathe.

How Vivos Works

Vivos is a nonsurgical method for correcting maxillary hypoplasia and mandibular retrognathia. It uses a daytime-nighttime appliance (DNA) system to apply gentle pressure to the palate, gradually expanding it to correct maxillary hypoplasia. It may also involve the use of a mandibular repositioning-nighttime appliance (mRNA), the purpose of which is to train the lower jaw to rest in its proper position.

Together, the DNA and mRNA remodel and/or reposition the jawbone so that it no longer has any effect on the upper airway. After you finish your treatment with the Vivos system, you should be able to sleep soundly every night without the use of a CPAP machine.

Benefits of Vivos

The Vivos system offers numerous benefits, including:

The appliances are comfortable

The appliances are nearly invisible

The VIVOS system is non-surgical and non-pharmaceutical, which means it is an extremely low-risk treatment

You may begin to notice results within the first few days or weeks of treatment

VIVOS permanently addresses one of the main causes of OSA

After completing the VIVOS protocol, many patients no longer require any type of OSA treatment

Better Breathing, Deeper Sleep

Improper development of the jaws and oral cavity can lead to an undersized airway where the tongue is more prone to fall into the back of the throat, causing the airway to collapse—especially at night. By reshaping and expanding the oral cavity, your airway may also expand, allowing you to both breathe and sleep more deeply.

Just take a look at this example of an adult male patient’s airway before and after Vivos treatment.

Individual results may vary.

Just 4 Steps To Solve Sleep Apnea

Frequently Asked Questions

More frequent questions about this dental service
Is the VIVOS system safe?
The Vivos system is an FDA-approved treatment designed to correct craniofacial anatomy development that can cause obstructive sleep apnea. The device is a safe and non-surgical option to reduce or eliminate the symptoms of sleep apnea.
Is the Vivos system effective?
Over 14,000 patients during the past 10 years have received treatment using the Vivos system, and the number of people benefiting from it is growing each year. As more dentists undergo special training to provide the system, it becomes easier for patients with sleep apnea to enjoy everlasting relief from their symptoms. Vivos is proven effective for reducing sleep apnea symptoms as well as improving overall vitality and wellness.
How long does it take to see any results?
Many patients report noticing an improvement in their symptoms within the first few days to months after wearing the daytime/nighttime device. Throughout your treatment, you’ll need periodic adjustments to help you achieve maximum improvement.
How long will my results last?
Unlike other oral appliances, your results will be permanent upon completing your treatment plan, which can take 12 to 24 months. You won’t need lifetime intervention for sleep apnea because the device expands your upper airway to eliminate interruptions in breathing. Overall, you’ll benefit from improved sleep quality, better productivity, enhanced concentration, and a boost to your general health. By treating your sleep apnea with Vivos, you’ll lessen your risk of several health issues linked to a breathing disorder, like hypertension, stroke, and Alzheimer’s disease.
Is the Vivos device painful?
Your oral appliance is custom-made for a comfortable fit. It won’t be bothersome, allowing you to get the rest you need. As a result, it offers a higher patient compliance rate than other common sleep apnea treatments, like a CPAP machine.
